RTOD: Is There Any Wonder?

Today’s blog is about the serious changes in attitude of the public towards practically everybody and everything.

I was checking my e-mail, and the Joke du Jour that I got today was a comparison of school from 1957 and 2007. Here’s a part of it, for example:

Scenario : Gary and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1957 – Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Gary and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2007 – Police called. SWAT team arrives, arrests Gary and Mark. Charges them with assault. Both expelled even though Gary started it.

Scenario : Jeffrey won’t be still in class, disrupts other students.
1957 – Jeffrey sent to office and given a good paddling by the Principal. Returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2007 – Jeffrey given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. Tested for ADD. School gets extra money from state because Jeffrey has a disability.

After reading this, I started thinking, are we really all that insanely paranoid about everybody and everything? Unfortunately, people think we have to be. (I don’t fear anybody or anything, have a problem with me, take it to me!) In reality, you don’t have to go back even that far to make comparisons of the differences! Even in the 80’s, things were still generally okay to get into a fight without police having to be called. Now, if you THINK about getting into a fight, police are called, and there can be charges pressed for conspiracy for assault! One of the scenarios was about a teenager who legally used his weapon appropriately, but came to school right after hunting, gets arrested and loses his weapon and truck because he CAME TO SCHOOL! Okay, yes, he had a weapon in the vehicle, but he had absolutely no intention of harming anyone! But, it doesn’t matter, because he had a weapon, he absolutely had to have some kind of intent of using it! And, because someone had a weapon, the school closes and therapists get called in to help the “traumatized” students! AND NOTHING HAPPENED! The weapon didn’t even get into the building! It is insane that we are so worried about “Terrorists” when we are already living in a terrorized society! It brings up many things, like using pain relievers in school, PDA’s from teacher to students, parental corporal punishment, and many other things that, in reality, since their removal or controlling of, society has simply gone downhill! Why is it if I bring Tylenol Extra Strength to school that I get expelled and searched for drugs? Oh, yeah, I get it, I could go, “Hey, guy, I got this 500mg Tylenol pill to sell you, dude, it’ll make that entire headache of yours go away! Only 50 cents!” B()ll$1t!

Even further, they didn’t have something that really should have been added!

Scenario: TheLoneWulf is reported to have a creepy spider in his locker.
1957: Principle would haul TheLoneWulf into his office, take him to his locker, and make him open it, to make sure nothing was of concern in the locker.
2007: Students are put on lockdown in the classes. Police, SWAT, and Bomb Team brought in. Principle calls parents/guardians to request permission to open the locker, which is still on state property. Police are given combo or lock cutters, enter locker, find that there was definitely a tarantula in the locker, but nothing of any illegal substances in said locker. Student’s parents then sue school, police, and state for violation of privacy of their child.

Since when does a minor, or anybody on a state-funded school ground, for that matter, have a privacy permission for the property on the SCHOOL GROUNDS? Yes, you are paying taxes for the school, but you are supposedly giving the school permission to do what is necessary to protect your children while they are in the building! The lockers are provided for the students’ benefit, and is in no way, shape, or form owned by the student. Ultimately, it is borrowed from the school by the student to allow temporary storage of jackets, book bags, and school materials. Understanding that students will hold more than that in their lockers, if there is something in there that you feel would cause problems if it were found, IT SHOULDN’T BE AT THE SCHOOL! The closest thing that was in my locker that might have caused any degree of concern was my 72-cd wallet! If they found that, I might have gotten reprimanded, but no one cared! Oh no, they found that I listen to music on the bus! AAAHH!!!!

I apologize about the rant today, but this is ridiculous! There is no reason that my children should be afraid to go to school, and there is NO REASON why the teachers and staff can’t handle the schools anymore. What is it that caused this? The teachers? The principles, vice principles, or administrators? Nope. What caused it is the shift of peoples’ minds to, “Hey, you need to fix it, but you can’t do . . .” No one wants to take responsibility, and so the government feels that it needs to do something, and then they take away all the abilities of the people to fend for the schools themselves. Also, the fact that parents do not take the time to actually care about their children anymore isn’t helping! Instead, they hand their children off to therapists and shrinks, which does nothing to help the children who only want mom and dad to say, “Hi, MadCat, I love you!” and actually mean it! Grr…

Any comments, questions, or concerns will be happily addressed! Thanks for your time!
